Background
Frontrunners is a vision and initiative, which course has only been complete twice
(since 2005). The concept of Frontrunners is founded on interviews with Deaf Youth
from 5 different countries at an informal meeting. Castberggaard Folk High School
for the Deaf has a vision that every Deaf youth worldwide should have an opportunity
of taking part in this unique extended leadership training programme.
The Concept of the Frontrunner Project
The ambition of the Frontrunners, a Deaf International Youth Leadership Training
Programme -with focus on International Project Management-, is to take effort of
that each individual has the ability of paving the way to better conditions for
the Deaf people, in their country and also worldwide. Frontrunners will also illustrate
the importance of World Federation of the Deaf (WFD – equivalent to United Nations),
it’s important for us that the participants through the Frontrunners, in time will
be able act as role models for the present Deaf generation, and also generations
to come.
Vision
To give Deaf youth, during, under and after the Frontrunner programme, tools to
be ABLE to make a difference. This means to improve the terms for you as an individual,
for your nation and finally for Deaf people worldwide. The Frontrunners course follows
the philosophy and aims of the World Federation of the Deaf, based on the principles
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Individual conditions
Frontrunners is a project for those Deaf youth who want to take responsibility and
to take action. Organisational experiences would be an advantage. Everyone should
during the whole period participate actively and be part of this project as a whole.
Basic knowledge in International Sign would be an advantage.
Teachers and Guest speakers
Guest speakers will have the major role, we have international Deaf guest speakers
to give workshops and present on those various themes. Filip Verhelst and Ole Vestergaard
will mentor the students from theme to theme.
