History
Castberggård was established in 1973 by four deaf clubs based in Jutland. Those Jutland-based deaf clubs collected money and bought Castberggård with aim to establish a culture and education center for the deaf. Castberggård became a folk high school in 1986 and offered training in the different fields with focus on non-formal education, for deaf over 18. In 2005, Castberggård decided it was time to expand from national to international borders, and Frontrunners, an international education program was born. The international leadership education program has existed since 2005, and still exists.
Surroundings
Castberggård is located in Denmark, which has the peninsula of Jutland (Jylland) and two large islands, Zealand (Sjælland) and Funen (Fyn) and Denmark is surrounded by sea. We are located in so called in the middle of nowhere, with beautiful nature surrounding us. We are close to forest, sea and city. The nearest town is 6 km away, a larger city 20 km away. We have two buses you can borrow, and you can also alternatively cycle or walk if you desire so.
Daily life
The concept of folk high school is that you actively participate in your learning process, and have a daily life on the school and the life is consisted of learning, eating, resting and cleaning up as you usually do at home. You live in one of those houses (Amandine points towards one of the houses in the background), and you'll sleep 2:2 in the rooms.
As you can see, we are in the dining room. Here you will eat three times a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our kitchen staff serves varied food with opportunity for desired diet (for example vegetarian or vegan). You eat here Monday-Friday, and during the weekends you cook on your own hand.
Castberggård has a great number of facilities for teaching, working and meeting as resting rooms as well. We have also sporthall for different sport activities and e.g. team building. We have also a outdoors equipment room. You can also find a well equipped gym here, and there is opportunity for relax in the sauna after doing physical activities. If you want to sleep outdoors, we have shelters for it.
